The pace of Rolex innovation is a slow and steady thing. When changes are made they are subtle. Iteration upon iteration of the modest number of timepieces in their range is the norm. A new dial colour here, a movement alteration there - that sort of thing. The slow perfecting of their craft you may say. So when Rolex launches an entirely new watch, as they did with the Sky-Dweller back in 2012, watch enthusiasts around the world sit up and take notice (and usually try and place an order!). The Sky-Dweller is by far Rolex's most complicated in-house movement ever, and for that reason alone is it quite something. Originally only available in rather expensive precious metals, in 2017 Rolex finally released the steel and white gold (or Rolesor in Rolex-speak) variants that the market was crying out for.
Geoff's comment: Is the steel and white gold Sky-Dweller the most complete and versatile Rolex ever made? I think it could be. It's a dress watch and a sports watch rolled into one, and is perfectly at home worn with a suit and tie as it is with ripped jeans and your favourite faded t-shirt.
