First launched in 1955 and originally designed for professional use by airline pilots, the GMT-Master became a huge hit with travellers. Showing two time zones simultaneously was of great benefit to those travelling across continents and time zones. GMT, of course, stands for Greenwich Mean Time, which marks solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London - the original meridian used for calculating longitude and determining different time zones around the world. The ceramic bezel on the GMT-Master II is quite a work of art - the two colours combination is on a single piece ceramic component, which was a world first for Rolex. And did you know it takes 40 hours to produce each two-colour Cerachrom bezel!
